Head Coach and Manager of Wushu Team Canada National Team
When I was 10 years old my father registered me in karate school. It was my first experience with martial arts and I enjoyed it very much. Little did I know that what started out as a hobby would become life changing!
I began with karate (Kan Zen Ryu), studying under Shihan Hasan Shaafei and Shihan Hosein Shaafei, both of whom were exceptional martial artists and coaches. After a year, I sought more action and began studying Kung Fu with Master Majid Gazeranei at Amar Kung Fu Academy, eventually earning my black belt.
Four years later, I transitioned to Seido Kay Kan karate, introduced by my former coach Shihan Shaafei. I achieved my 2nd-degree black belt and referee certificate, competing in numerous full-contact tournaments and earning many awards.
At 18, I placed 2nd in a national full-contact karate tournament, winning 3 out of 4 fights. Despite losing to Iran’s top kickboxing champion, I was motivated to improve and began training under Grand Master Satar Aliour and Master Satar, winning numerous tournaments.
In 2006, I immigrated to Canada and began teaching martial arts. Representing Team Canada, I won a Silver medal at the 2011 World Championship in Germany. Despite a shoulder injury that sidelined me for several years, I resumed training to teach my son and students the importance of perseverance.
In 2018, at age 37, I won the Men’s World Heavyweight Kickboxing Championship at the IKF Kickboxing World Championship, representing Canada.
